Just when I thought it was going to be a slow day...
4 ewes all went into labour within the first hour of my arrival!
The first 2 were in the process of when lamb confusion begins... They were likely going to steal lambs if I hadn't separated them first...
A few ewes I had to assist, but for the most part, today the ewes did a fabulous job of lambing solo.
Got to the end of the day and had a couple lambs who I just couldn't get on to the ewe's udder for a drink. Super frustrating when mom is patient, and full of milk.

Hi Sandi, When a human baby won't latch, it's helpful to just stroke along their cheek (one cheek at a time) from about ear level towards the corner of the mouth. This is an infant reflex and it may not have developed properly yet. It's important to get them latching / drinking within a couple of hours.. You might try that technique with the lambs that are slow to latch. Good luck.. Thanks for. Sharing. Eich iechyd da ("Your Good Health" in Welsh), Wendy

Hi Sandi, i don't think you help too much. Those are big lambs and the fact they are a bit yellow shows they have been having a bit of a struggle. You've done the right thing helping them out. Your shed looks really well set up too. I've nearly finished my 200 ewes now with just 8 stragglers left. Good luck with the rest of them.

I so appreciate your channel! I like how you show the good and the bad, and how much you truly care for your sheep. I’m not in agriculture,(except for a time I lived with my aunt & uncle when my mom was sick) I grew up a townie in The-Middle-Of-Nowhere Wisconsin surrounded by dairy farms. It was a great way to grow up. Anyway, thank you for sharing your days!

Every livestock farmer has their own way of doing things and they always think their way is the best. You do you and ignore the haters. The worst are AM-posts watchers that think they know everything about farming when they've never been on a farm. 🐑It's your farm and your sheep so you do what you feel is right🐏. If those "viewers" dont like the way you operate they can watch something else.

Another question I have as you mentioned people think you help too much....I asked my husband I said do 75% of the ewes in the wild die from childbirth because they can’t get the lambs out if so why are they so sensitive to birthing problems???
T3rrorToff33 6 ամիս առաջ
its definitely not 75% but birth is one of the most dangerous aspects of being an animal in the wild. the majority of sheep give birth to healthy lambs and surviuve with ease but because in the wild they have no vet care, ewes that would survive in captivity (like them being weak after birthing triplets, or having a backwards lamb) just die in the wild, usually by being picked off by a predator. herbivores ARE sensitive top birthing problems because of the large size of their babies. if you look at predators, they barely have any problems but animals like sheep, cows and horses give birth to large babies with very long legs because they have to be able to run from birth.

I’ve been watching all of the landing and I have enjoyed all of your videos I’m curious what happens to the lambs that you deliver and what happens to the moms what happens to the boy lambs what happens to the girl lambs? Since you mentioned on a previous video that lamb wool is not a profitable business I had already told my husband I think there are just for wool because she loves the lambs so much but........if not for the shearing are these lambs for eating???

Being a city girl, I have a few odd questions? When you see a lamb come out that is "stillborn", is there a way to tell that there's no way it can be revived or do you try like animal CPR. Also, what do you do with lambs and Ewe's when they are still born or pass away? Do you bury them, do you donate the ewes for meat (is that even possible). I think what you do is amazing, and I think you should still trust your gut and just follow your instincts when it comes to helping out! You've right more times in helping this lambing season than you've been wrong!
lzmai5 6 ամիս առաջ
@Saffie19 Thanks for the answers! I know Sandi is super busy, so having someone else that knows the answer is great!
T3rrorToff33 6 ամիս առաջ
stillborn animals are dead when they're in the womb, by the time they're born they are way beyond saving. when a lamb dies while birthing, its usually due to being stuck in the birth canal which causes swelling in the brain and after the lamb passes out it dies from bleeing in the brain. the times when one CAN help is when the lamb is born and its not breathing, maybe because the water broke too early and the lamb couldnt take its first breath quickly enough. in that case you can do mouth to mouth and cpr and even then its unlikely that the lamb survives for longer than a day. Sadly after only 20 minutes of being clinically dead its impossible to get a healthy lamb
T3rrorToff33 6 ամիս առաջ
@Saffie19 they're composted with stuff that doesnt getused from the harvest, that compost is then used as fertilizer. an entire animal is actually GREAT to enrich compost because there are A LOT of good bacteria and proteins in the meat, calcium in the bones ect....
Saffie19 6 ամիս առաջ
